TITLE: Lim Li Bang fonds
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: 24 cm of textual records and other material

ADMINISTRATIVE HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Lim Bang was born in the 1880s. In the
early 1900s, Lim became the owner of Gim Fook Yuen, a
merchandise store in Victoria. He also operated several
greenhouses, worked as a wood merchant, and served as a
manager at the Bank of Vancouver located on Government
Street. Another of Lim's major accomplishments was the
development of the Douglas Hotel at Douglas and Pandora
Streets in Victoria. Lim was also involved in many public
activities as a member of the Chinese Benevolent Society and
also as a private individual fought racism against
Chinese-Canadians. Lim married Lim Ng Shee in 1903 and they
had one son and three daughters.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The fonds consists of miscellaneous files, photographs,
artifacts and a plan. Miscellaneous files have been loosely
ordered under the following topics: Gim Fook Yuen Company,
sausage business, Lim Fook murder attempt, Kue Hing Company
theatrical troupe and miscellaneous documents. Photographs
consist of 7 original images and 18 copies of loaned images
pertaining to the Lim Bang family. Artifacts include paper,
storage boxes and rice bottles. Plan consists of a lot plan
to a property in Sidney.
