TITLE: Nootka Packing Company fonds

ADMINISTRATIVE HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: The Nootka Packing Company Ltd. operated
a cannery built in 1917 at Friendly Cove on Nootka Island.
The cannery canned pilchards, herring and salmon. The
company also operated a store and a fish buying camp. The
company ceased operations in 1929.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The fonds consists of correspondence, invoices from
suppliers, Canadian Pacific Steamships manifests, lists of
Japanese and native fishermen, fish books and time cards,
insurance papers, Chinese contractor's pay slips, and store
carbons of sales slips. Some letters deal with the effect
of World War I on the canning industry.
