Plan to Emigrate to Mexico

Description: During the winter of the year 1923 the St. Mathew Congregation of Stony Plain sent Rev. Eberhardt, Mr. Jakob Mueller, an Mr. Heinrich Goerz on a trip to Mexico to study the conditions for the establishment of a colony. The Stony plain congregations was considering to emigrate to Mexico because the Alberta Government had threatened to close their congregational school. The school was indeed closed down, but not for long. Even before the church delegation returned from their trip to Mexico, the Department of Education in Alberta had given permission to re-open the church school and, consequently, the congregation did not have to emigrate.
